Second Project Meeting - 5 September 2016, Cambridge (UK)

The second project meeting of BET-EU took place in Cambridge (UK), on 5th September of 2016. Partner organisations had a fruitful discussion on past and upcoming activities, including the scientific & innovation strategy of UNINOVA & I3N involving areas related to paper electronics, secondment opportunities to UCAM, VTT and FhG-IKTS for Master and PhD students and post-doc researchers of I3N or UNINOVA. New secondment calls will be open soon for 2017. Two webinars will be launched still in 2016 and other training opportunities will also be announced. Stay tuned!

BET-EU team members from UNINOVA were invited to the “NSF Papertronics Workshop: Paper-based Electronics for the 21st Century” to take place on 12-14 September 2016 in Virginia, U.S. This workshop will bring together research leaders in academia and government labs, along with those in small and large businesses, to discuss the state of the art and potential future directions in paper-based electronics; a key strategic area in the U.S. From Europe, the only representatives will be members from UNINOVA.

Elvira Fortunato and Rodrigo Martins, members of the BET-EU coordination team, are finalists for the European Inventor Award 2016

The invention of paper-based transistors by Portuguese scientist Elvira Fortunato and Rodrigo Martins at the New University of Lisbon offers a cost-saving and energy-efficient alternative to silicon chips. Applications in daily life include biosensors, "smart" product packaging, networked shipping labels and animated billboards.
